美国休斯顿卫理公会研究所医学博士后职位

Two full-time postdoc positions will be available starting July 1, 2014 at Houston Methodist Hospital Research Institute (HMRI), Texas.

HMRI locates in the Texas Medical Center, which is the largest medical center in the world with one of the highest densities for basic and translational research. HMRI is affiliated with the Cornell University School of Medicine. Methodist Hospital, which was previously affiliated with Baylor School of Medicine, is ranked No.1 in Texas and No.14 nationally in the specialty of Cardiology and Heart Surgery. HMRI is dedicated to basic and translational research in association with Methodist Hospital. Therefore, a unique feature of HMRI is that its research is closely related to clinical application. HMRIhas outstanding preclinical departments which facilitate the translation of significant scientific discoveries from bench work into therapeutic applications.

The positions are available in the recently established laboratory of Dr. Longhou Fang. Dr. Fang has documented the role of ApoA-I binding protein (AIBP) and cholesterol efflux in regulation of angiogenesis (Nature 2013). Based on these seminal findings, Dr. Fang’s laboratory will be focusing on the role of AIBP and lipid metabolism in angiogenesis under pathophysiological conditions. This includes the roles of AIBP in 1) cardiac hypertrophy, myocardial ischemia and reperfusion as well as heart regeneration; 2) peripheral arterial ischemia and reperfusion; 3) retinopathy; and 4) tumorigenesis. In addition, the role of AIBP in pulmonary arterial hypertension will also be explored. Genetically modified zebrafish and mouse models with loss- and gain-of-function of Aibp will be used in these studies. Drug discovery efforts will include a high throughput screening of drugs to improve cardiovascular disease outcomes using in vitro assays and the hypercholesterolemic zebrafish model that Dr. Fang has established (JCI 2011; JBC2010; Cir Res 2009).

Ph.D scientists who are interested in the aforementioned research, preferentially with experience in cardiovascular surgery and/or tumorigenesis, and/or hematopoietic cell characterization in mice or zebrafish are encouraged to apply. The successful candidates will be highly self-motivated, capable of working independently and able to communicate efficiently with the lab and other members in HMRI. Candidates who demonstrate good oral and written communication skills are preferred. The expectation is that you will be able to pursue independent scientific careers after the postdoc training. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with your experience and follow NIH guidelines.
