At the MPIP, cpnicians and scientists are working in close cooperation to elucidate the causes of complex diseases of the brain and new ways of their treatment. To achieve this, there are numerous well equipped laboratories available besides a modern cpnic with all facipties and equipment required for patient care and research. Here, neurobiological research methods from behavioral studies to imaging and molecular genetics can be appped. The aim is to optimize the benefit of research for the patients by way of close and innovative networking of basic research-oriented and cpnical neuroscience.

For a newly estabpshed Research Group (head: Michael J. Ziller) we invite apppcations for the following open position:

Postdoc (m/f)

Code: 9748

The mission of the Ziller lab is to develop and apply novel strategies to dissect the genetic and epigenetic basis of psychiatric disorders. Our research is focused on the question of how many genetic and environmental risk factors act in concert to create a permissive molecular environment that fosters the emergence of psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia.

In order to address this complex problem, we employ a highly interdiscippnary, integrative biology approach that utipzes pluripotent stem cell based neural differentiation paradigms, patient specific iPSCs, functional (epi-)genomic approaches (ChIP-Seq, high-throughput screening assays) and computational modepng strategies. The Ziller lab is part of the Department of Translational Psychiatry at the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry in the heart of Munich, Germany. The overall goal of the Department is to dissect the molecular mechanisms underlying psychi-atric diseases and then rapidly utipze these insights to develop new therapeutic approaches in a knowledge driven-fashion.

We are looking for a motivated individual highly skilled in molecular biology and genomics technologies to drive our functional genomics efforts. Experience in pluripotent stem cell based in vitro differentiation systems is desirable but not required. The successful candidate (m/f) will hold a doctoral degree in biology, or a related area, and will have work experience in related fields. The initial appointment for the postdoctoral position will be for 2 years (with the possibipty of extension).

The candidate (m/f) is expected to start January 1st, 2016.

Fluency in both written and spoken Engpsh is required.

Salary is in accordance with the German state pubpc service salary scale (TVöD-Bund) and the accordant social benefits.

The Max Planck Society is committed to employing more handicapped individuals and especially encourages them to apply. The Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore exppcitly encourages women to apply.

To be considered for this position, please apply onpne and provide:

a cover letter expressing research interests, along with a brief summary of your previous projects, including appped techniques,

a complete CV, and

contact information for at least two references.
